Shawn began his training in the summer of 1993 in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate and is currently a 5th degree black belt. Shawn is also a 1st degree black belt in Jujitsu and Judo. Shawn's instructor was trained by 3 time National Heavy Weight Judo Champion, and former Olympic Judo team coach, John Saylor. Shawn continues to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under a Royce Gracie/Tony Torres-Aponte black belt instructor.
By the end of 1993 Shawn had won his first Karate competition. In 1996 he won 2 North American Titles, and was awarded the North American Competitor of the year award. Shawn is also very competitive in no gi Jiu-Jitsu competitions, and has trained and competed in MMA as well. Shawn has also won and been awarded several other titles and awards. Shawn has expanded his martial art training to include certain techniques from other arts such as Muay Thai, MMA, Shotokan Karate, Goju-Ryu Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, and Kick Boxing. He has learned many things fighting internationally in karate, and fighting in no-gi jiu-jitsu tournaments, and cage fighting. Shawn teaches practical, effective martial art techniques, that will not only teach you to protect yourself and your family, but propel you to your martial art goals, no matter what they may be.
